Parallel Literature Festival 2019
What is Rajasthan PWA?
To oppose imperialism and promote progressive-humanist values in literature, Sajjad Zaheer and Mukraj Anand with other writers founded PWA in 1935 in London. It's first convention was held in 1936 in Lucknow and it was presided by the great hindi writer Munshi Premchand. Top-most writers of Indian writers have been associated with PWA, to name a few stalwarts of the progressive movement we can proudly announce, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Manto, Ali Sardar Jafri, Wamik Jaunpuri, Shailendra, Sahir Ludhiyanavi, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Ismat Chughtai, Kaifi Aazmi, Krishna Chander, Amrita Preetam, Balraj Sahni, Bhishm Sahni, Dr. Ram Vilas Sharma, Rahul Sankrityayan, Majaz Lakhnavi, Kedar Nath Agrawal and so on, there is an un-ending list of progressive writers in Indian languages.
In Rajasthan there is a great tradition of Progressive Writers movement before formation of RPWA in 1972.
